Nature Paintings Series

Herbst, 2007, Acrylic on Canvas, 90 x 110 cm
These paintings are studies on the essence of nature. The original inspiration for these works was a result of my many hours jogging and hiking through the countryside in Switzerland - an experience that became my form of meditation. After working for years in an abstract manner and symbolic manner, in the early 1990's I began concentrating my art on my immediate surroundings.
We live in a time when human impact in the environment is having major consequences on the climate and on the well being of all other life sharing our planet. I consider it extremely import to pay closer attention to one's local environment and my focus as an artist is on the rich complexity found in the textures of the forests, the meadows, the rivers and the mountains of where I live.
I consider my painting style, a blend of Impressionism and Hyperrealism, to be a metaphor for the atoms and particles that make up all reality - especially that of our home planet - the Earth. The surfaces of my paintings are built up textures of acrylic paint applied in a rich pointllistic manner on canvas.
I have the fortunate opportunity to live in one the most beautiful and scenic regions in Europe - situated on the border between Switzerland and Germany divided by the Lake of Constance and the Rhine river. My goal is to share my experiences of being immersed in this inspiring landscape by inviting the viewer to enter into a three-dimensional illusionary space of vibrating natural energy.
